Transform Your Sleeping Quarters…My Duvet & Upholstery Journey

Hello Lovelies,

I’m back with an update on my sleeping quarters. Although, I didn’t get to do as much as I wanted. I managed to reupholster the small benches and paint the green metal cabinet. Also, I decided on the bedding, and the paint color for the bed. Since the bedding is a major part of this transformation, let’s start there. Can you guess what bedding I chose?

I had a tough time deciding on the bedding. I knew whatever bedding I chose, it had to be a duvet. Because I didn’t want to store my existing comforter. Initially, I wanted a deep rich shade of emerald green, for the bedding.

Plus, I knew I wanted the space to be casual but elegant. I just wasn’t sure how to pull it off. So, I did the process of elimination. Eventually, I chose the bedding that worked best with what I envisioned for the space.

Would you like to take a wild guess?

Y’all, I didn’t pick the emerald green bedding. Instead, I fell in love with the sage green duvet. Even though, it’s casual the velvet adds an understated elegance. Also, I felt the bedding would look great with the existing wall color. I can’t wait to snuggle up with this bedding. I hope it feels as good as it looks.

I haven’t painted the bed yet. But I’ve decided to paint the bed black. And I will use chalk paint since my apartment doesn’t have windows. Also, it would be too much trouble to take the bed apart. So, what do you think about my bedding choice? Yes or No?

Next up, was the fabric. As you all know, I had six different fabrics to choose from. Then, I whittled it down to two choices. Ultimately, I decided on this statement fabric with its black background and bold colors. It’s perfect for the benches. What are your thoughts on the fabric?

BEFORE

This is how the bench looked before I reupholstered the cushion.

I reupholstered the cushion, but I forgot to show the step-by-step process. Quick tip: If your fabric has a pattern, take extra time and center it properly. Your project will look like a professional did the work.

Is this fabric gorgeous or what? I love it, but the chrome finish wasn’t working for me. So, I headed to Walmart for, metallic gold spray paint.

I purchased two cans of metallic gold paint to finish the project.

I set up a makeshift paint area and got to work. To paint the benches. While painting, I did a continuous back-and-forth motion. This technique helps with over-spraying, and it keeps the paint from running. Also, I waited for the paint to dry completely between each coat. Wow, what a difference a can or two of spray paint makes.

I am so glad I painted the base. Painting the base elevated the look of the benches. They went from a big box store look to a high-end look. Who knew?

Do these benches make a bold statement or what? I think they look amazing, and I love the finished product. What about you?

Lovelies, how many of you have transformed your bedrooms? I would love to hear about it in the comments.

Until next time,
