Apartment Under Construction

One of the things that attracted me to this quirky little apartment was the vaulted ceilings/beams

I thought the beams made quite a statement and they added character/charm to the space.

A few months ago, my landlord decided that the apartment needed an update. She wanted to change the look of the unit by creating a clean minimal aesthetic. The goal was to insulate the ceiling and finish it off with beadboard panels. I wasn’t thrilled with the idea at all. I expressed to her that the beams/vaulted ceilings were a selling/rental feature for the place. I also understood that she needed to do what was best for her situation.

So, on July 16, I packed my knapsack and headed for the hills. Lol! The work was scheduled to begin the next day.

The insulation went up, and several days later the beadboard paneling was installed.

Old tract lighting
New light fixture

It took several days for the space to be completed. The tract lighting in the kitchen and living areas was replaced with new light fixtures.

This is a shot taken from the MLS.

On day twelve, I moved back into the space, and I gave the ceiling a thorough inspection. My thoughts…

The fresh white ceiling does add a crispness to the space, and makes it feel brighter. However, the installation could have been a lot better.

Even though, I liked the exposed beams best; I do like the bright white ceiling. Also, I believe with proper execution and attention to detail, this project could have been a home run!

Which do you prefer, the exposed beams or the beadboard? Drop a comment below!

  1. Hey ZsaZsa!! Love your new post!! Also, I prefer the beams but the new ceiling would look better if there wasn’t that one piece that was out of place. That piece is literally catching my eye every time I see it.
